Claire Zhou remarks, "The beauty of math is hard to appreciate until you experience it yourself. Problem solving helps stretch your mind to think creatively and differently which is something that no one can teach." Austin student Jonathan Shoemaker is excited for the opportunity of international competition: These four students will attend the 2014 residential Junior Summer Math Camp program at Texas State University in June to train as a team. In July, they will then compete in the PMWC in Hong Kong against more than 40 other teams from across the world. Mathworks has sent a team to the PMWC 11 times, and has achieved the top non-Asian team recognition 8 times. In 2013, the Mathworks team won the PMWC outright. Mathworks is a center for innovation in mathematics education at Texas State University. Our mission is to develop model programs and self-sustaining learning communities that engage Texas K-12 students from all backgrounds in doing mathematics at a high level. Mathworks programs raise mathematics achievement for all students, while developing future leaders in science, engineering, and mathematics.
