Follow on Google News | Don't Let the Holidays Wreak Havoc on Your HappinessBy: Children's Discovery Center It seems like the impossible feat. But…it doesn’t have to be. Parents are the most important element in their child’s lives. This we know. And with a little time management and planning, it is possible as a parent to take care of yourself, as well as your child. The holiday season certainly comes with a lot of added stress to the family. Too many commitments and not enough time. Here are a few suggestions for making things a little more bearable this holiday season: 1. Make a calendar and list only one function per day…two at the max. Avoid overloading! 2. Allow plenty of time for getting ready if you’re going out, especially if children are involved. Children seem to move slower and be more difficult when rushed. 3. Make sure you are well rested. Nap whenever the children do, if possible. Consider doing something you enjoy like reading a book or taking a break to enjoy your favorite show. Even a slight breather can help. The major housework can wait until January. 4. Ask for help when you need it. Enlist the support from your partner, family, friends or a babysitter to give yourself some time off. 5. Eat good, healthy meals. A nutritious diet will help you deal better with stress. Heavy, unhealthy meals can deplete your energy levels. Also, it will be easier to resist those holiday goodies. 6. Come to realize and accept that IT IS OK not to do everything perfectly! Parents need to feel good about themselves in order to be a good parent and role model. A rested parent is a merrier parent. Remember, this is a time for family, friendship and appreciation. Enjoy every moment. You deserve it! End
