The lecture series themed-- “Whether earthquake calamities are manmade”was attended by235 prominent Engineers and Architects from acrossChhatisgarh. The series highlighted the role of smart structural design for withstanding earthquakes.

Ambuja Cement has been organizingsimilar knowledge sharing series across various cities in India,inviting leading experts to share with construction professionals, important topics that arerelevant to the construction industry.

Highlighting the role of smart structural designin buildings for withstanding earthquakes,Mr.Cyrus Dordi, Corporate Head for Product Quality Ambuja Cement Limited, said, “The earthquake is greatlya manmade calamity.In a vivid presentation with visuals of calamity and structural, planning and workmanship defects, Mr. Dordi explained that lives can be saved from natural disasters if the buildings were properly constructed and designed as per the codal provisions for seismic regions.Also tampering with structures by damaging the structural elements or overloading the structures to create short term facilities lead to disasters.”

Participants were welcomedby Mr. Anurag Sullerey, CSG - Zonal Head (CG & M.P.) who lead the lecture series with a short introduction of the company, its range of products and innovative services.

Mr. Dodri covered a wide range of subjects, using pictorial examples from his 30-year career in construction, to illustrate some common and not so common mistakes made in concreting. Hedelivered his 1036^th lecture during the event,and was felicitated by Mr. Uttam Chand Jain, Senior Engineer of M/s. Uttam Constructions Raipur for this milestone.

Mr.Manoj Kannawar, Chairman, Indian Concrete Institute was invited as a special guest for this knowledgesharing series, as he highlighted various activities of the Indian Concrete Institute and its focused efforts towards sustainable construction.
