South Shore To Re-Brand And Demand High Quality Grocer

Uses Big Data To Educate The Public On Viability Of the South Shore Community As Profitable Chicago Urban Community
By: The Planning Coalition

CHICAGO - Dec. 13, 2013 - PRLog -- Chicago- DEC 13, 2013 – The Planning Coalition (formerly known as the South Shore Planning and Preservation Coalition) has teamed up with a multitude of bright minds in the South Shore community to discuss many topics, including the neighborhoods falling crime rate and it’s wealth of resources available.  Presentations will demonstrate positive change in the area through personable, data-based approaches to build a clearer, more complete picture of South Shore.

Truths will be revealed about the South Shore and its residents at a town hall meeting, located at the South Shore Int’l Prep High School, on Saturday, December 14, 2013, at 1:30PM.

Rumors about the South Shore have run rampant for years, but most recently, South Shore residents may be working through a new challenge – a food shortage – as the local Dominick’s is set to close in Dec,  28 , 2013.  Local grocers, such as Aldi and Save-A-Lot, are still available but they lack in variety of foods carried or their location is too far away for many residents to walk to.

While the closing of Dominick’s raises concern in the community, many are optimistic that a new grocer filling the void will be able to offer a larger selection of healthier foods than those found at their local discount grocery store.  While prices from a more upscale grocer may be a little higher, the addition of a Mariano’s or Whole Foods would be seen as a better option compared to discount counter-parts.

By awaking the South Shore community and abroad to its many improvements and available resources, more upscale services and products can be made available and advance the over-all quality of life of local families, their students, and their children.

Over 1,100 people have been invited to the town hall meeting, including many accomplished educators, doctors, lawyers, and internationally recognized artists.  They will discuss a variety of topics including South Shore demographics, the falling crime rate, and resources available in South Shore.

Among those participating are Mary Steenson, an Urban Gardener from the We Mean Green Peace Gardens, Jedidiah Brown from the Young Leaders Alliance, and Ava St. Claire, a digital urban designer and member of The Planning Coalition.

Special thanks to Alderman Michelle Harris who has provided an abundance of support and resources to make this event a success. For more information you can visit The Planning Coalition website at www.theplanningcoalition.org
