Follow on Google News | Looking for a Holiday Gift That Shows You Care?If you know a golfer, The Sun SafeTee Program has some recommendations.
This year in the United States over three million skin cancers will be diagnosed. Since golfers spend a significant amount of time in the sun not only playing golf but also practicing, they may be at a higher risk than the general population for developing skin cancer. Approximately 12,000 people will die from skin cancer, primarily from melanoma. Wearing a wide brim hat that helps cover your ears and neck and using a good sunscreen with a SPF of 30 that blocks both UVA and UVB rays should be the foundation of a sun protection strategy. To be sure that clothes will protect you from UV rays, they should have a Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) label. The UPF rating is a system of measuring a fabric’s UV blocking capability, much like SPF is for sunscreen. You can add a product like SunSleeves (Iconic Sport) to a short sleeve polo to give your arms needed sun protection. “By getting your golfer a holiday gift that they can use year round to protect themselves from the sun’s UV rays, you are not only doing them a favor, you are letting them know you care about them” said Wishner. The Sun SafeTee Program is a non-profit sun protection education and skin cancer awareness program designed specifically for the golf community. The program provides educational seminars to golf professionals and the public, distributes sun protection information and sunscreen samples at various golf events. They are partners with The First Tee, Golf Coaches Association, The Golf Course Superintendents Association and The American Junior Golf Association. The goal of the Sun SafeTee Program is for golfers to enjoy a lifetime of healthy golf.
