ISLA's Social Media Manager Guest Lectures for Students at Cerritos College

Raquel Lizarraga the Social Media Manager of the nonprofit, ISLA (International Surf Lifesaving Association), was invited to speak for students at Cerritos College on December 13, 2013.

NORWALK, Calif. - Dec. 23, 2013 - PRLog -- “Using social media to create personal connections is Raquel's forte. Not only does she engage the ISLA fan base by providing them with information about ISLA activities, but she also makes them an integral part of story! This empowers the audience to see the ISLA story as their own, which entices the audience to eagerly promote ISLA activities on their own social networks." said ISLA President, Henry Reyes. “Her experience in social media provides great value to others interested in using it to develop a product or company.”

Raquel guest lectured for students in the New Product Development (NPD) class NPD 100 Product Development in a Global Economy. The NDP 100 class is focused on the complete process needed to bring a new product to market in a global economy. To prepare students for launching products and companies, Raquel discussed the importance of social media for business and strategies for successful implementation of new products, as well as her experiences building a social media presence for Cerritos College and ISLA.

“Two years ago when I first started at ISLA, we had one social media account and only 30 likes on our Facebook page. We now have over 9,000 followers on our Facebook page and we have six other social media accounts,” said ISLA’s Raquel Lizarraga. “Our company has seen tremendous growth because of our social media. We have reached more people and have been able to share our message of drowning prevention and through this we raised more funding for our programs and we helped more people! Social media is an important business tool that is vital in the global economy and we need to teach students how to use it.”
