W G George’s 100-up Exercise back in print

By: Guidemark Publishing Limited

Jan. 13, 2014 - PRLog -- A book that was first published in 1902 by highly successful runner Walter G George, is finally back in print. The 100-up Exercise method of training—which involves running on the spot using high knee lifts and springs— has seen a huge revival in recent years after it was described in a 2011 New York Times article by Christopher McDougall, author of Born To Run.

The 100-up is an exercise that can be done indoors or outdoors and has proven popular with many runners who are keen to improve their performance and develop technique. The method can also be used by non-athletes to build stamina and fitness.

Walter Goodall George was one of the most celebrated athletes of his time. In 1885 he ran a mile in 4 minutes 12¾ seconds—a record that held for almost 30 years. He devised the 100‑up training whilst working long hours indoors as a chemist’s apprentice. He used the method to enhance his fitness and improve his running technique and, after winning his very first race, went on to run many distances in record breaking time.

The 100-up Exercise is published by Guidemark Publishing under their Dormouse Press imprint and includes new illustrations. It is available online or from bookstores, and costs $9.50 or £10.99 (ISBN 9780957670402).
