Local Tax Expert is Guest Speaker on Topic of "Safeguarding Taxpayer Information"

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Jan. 31, 2014 - PRLog -- Lynn A Schmidt*, EA, CTC, CFS, CSA, ARA of Lynco Financial & Tax Services, Inc. of Winter Haven, FL, recently presented a specialized program to the Palm Beach Chapter of the Florida Society of Enrolled Agents dealing with "Safeguarding Taxpayer Information" .  Enrolled Agents (EAs) are the only federally licensed tax practitioners who have demonstrated technical competence in tax law and are the only taxpayer representatives licensed to practice by the United States government.Schmidt  has over three decades of Accounting and Tax Preparation experience and has gone to great lengths in her own practice to protect and safeguard taxpayer information.

The IRS has launched many programs over the last several years attempting to fight the war on taxpayer identity theft.  The four hour program included "best practices"  and other office procedures that Enrolled Agents should take to protect taxpayer information in their offices.  Procedures recommended ranged from secure office setup, treatment and handling of taxpayer documents, office security systems and included advanced technology tools that secure electronic data, including, encryption of sensitive taxpayer information .   Additionally, Schmidt presented a review of the Gramm-Leach Bliley Act as well as the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act which all business owners who deal with financial transactions should be aware of.
