Ceramic Polymer: Internal coating of slug catcher pipelines for the extraction of natural gas

ROEDINGHAUSEN, Germany - Feb. 5, 2014 - PRLog -- During the extraction process, natural gas is very humid and therefore highly corrosive. Due to the high pressure and absorbed stones, extreme abrasion occurs on the internal walls of the whole pipeline system. Moreover, the elevated temperature of the gas and the aggressiveness of the containing hydrogen sulfide demand an absolutely premium and resistant coating system for the internal lining of the gas conveyor plant.

Ceramic Polymer - coating project in Pakistan

Slug catcher in the “Sawan gas field”, the region of “Sindh” in Pakistan:

12-finger type, pipes with a length of 60 m and a diameter of 1,22 m each

The conveying pipe extends in 12 pipelines in parallel, each with a diameter of 48 inch (1,22 m) and a length of 60 m. In these “fingers“ the volume expands and the gas reduces its velocity. Due to the lightly falling gradient of the pipes, debris and humidity settle in specific inlet and outlet headers and can be removed separately.

Customer: OMV (Pakistan) Exploration, Islamabad-Pakistan

Construction: Descon Engineering Ltd., Lahore-Pakistan

Weight: 1.150 tons

Pressure of the gas: 86 bar up to 129 bar

Temperature of the gas: 55°C up to 110°C

The coating “Proguard CN-1M-LV3” provides durable corrosion protection and abrasion resistance

The internal coating of the huge slug catcher was conducted with the high-solid-product Proguard CN-1M-LV3.

This system shows a high mechanical hardness and an excellent chemical resistance against the hydrogen sulfide, which is contained in the natural gas.

Proguard CN-1M-LV3 is applied in 2-3 layers with a thickness of only 300 µm each by airless spraying method. Due to the fast curing a smooth construction and production flow is achieved.
