PRLog -- Plaintiff, a 14 year old student, was riding as a guest passenger in her brother’s vehicle, traveling northbound on Louisiana Highway 67, in Zachary, La. While attempting to make a left turn under the direction of a green turn arrow, the Plaintiff’s vehicle was t-boned on the passenger side door by a truck coming from the opposite direction. The defendant driver and his insurer contested liability by arguing that the defendant had a green light at the time of the crash and that the Plaintiff’s vehicle made a left turn on an unprotected green light. As a result of the collision, the minor Plaintiff sustainednumerous injuries including multiple facial fractures, fractured pelvis, and a fractured ankle. These injuries required two facial reconstructive surgeries and resulted in the Plaintiff missing several months of school. Fortunately, the Plaintiff was able to return to school several months later and was on the honor roll at the time of trial. Plaintiff’
s past medical expenses totaled approximately $215,000.00. After a three day trial, the jury returned a verdict placing 70% fault on the defendant driver. The jury awarded damages of $290,000 for past and future medical expenses, and more than $1,100,000.00 in general damages. With interest, the verdict totaled more than $1.6M.
