According to Fatima NeJame, president and chief executive officer of the world-renowned Palm Beach Photographic Centre, around 60 people attended a special reception on Sunday, January 5, honoring legendary photojournalist David Rubinger, the recipient of this year’s prestigious FOTOmentor Award. The Sunday afternoon reception was held at the Palm Beach Gardens home of Joel and Nancy Hart, who met Mr. Rubinger in Israel last November.

On exhibition through March at the Palm Beach Photographic Centre is David Rubinger: My Eye on Israel. Hailed by former Premier Shimon Peres as “the photographer of the nation in the making,” Mr. Rubinger is widely recognized as the unofficial photographer-historian for Israel since it was founded and for many years the primary photographer in the Mideast for TIME-LIFE. He covered all of Israel's wars from the front lines and was given unprecedented access to governmental leaders, many of which have allowed him a remarkable degree of access to their lives. This enabled him to take many memorable photographs and be present on historical occasions, including his signature photograph of Israeli paratroopers at Jerusalem’s Western Wall, shortly after its recapture by Israeli forces in the 1967 Six-Day War.
