Follow on Google News | Horizons Savannah to Roast & Toast Pete Liakakis at Annual GalaHorizons Savannah is thrilled to announce that it has chosen Pete Liakakis, Savannah’s most beloved politician, as the first-ever Horizons Savannah “Roast & Toast” honored guest at its annual gala on April 11, 2014, at Savannah Station.
Never before seen in Savannah, the Horizons Savannah Roast & Toast will bring together friends, colleagues, family members and other community members to celebrate and “roast” Mr. Liakakis, who has spent decades on Chatham County Council, Savannah’s City Council and other political bodies. The evening promises both raucous fun and fruitful fundraising, helping to bring in much-needed funds for Horizons Savannah students. Held at Savannah Station in historic downtown Savannah, the event will include dinner, tributes to Mr. Liakakis, a silent auction and live music by City Hotel Band. Pete Liakakis says, “I feel honored that Horizon Savannah has selected me as the first person to be roasted. This event will raise money to fill an important need in our community: Horizons Savannah’s award-winning, six-week summer enrichment program. I have always felt we should all make local children our first priority, for they are the future of Chatham County.” WTOC’s renowned anchor Sonny Dixon will emcee the event, introducing each roaster and toaster and lending his inimitable brand of southern humor to this unique event. He will also assist with the silent auction, which will include one-of-a-kind items such as a weekend at a historic cottage on the May River in Bluffton, SC; travel packages; artwork and more. Mr. Dixon says, “Everybody thinks there must be multiple Pete ‘Liakaki,’ Event Co-Chair Callie Daters says, “This year's Roast & Toast will not only honor one of Savannah's most dedicated citizens; it will also raise money for a crucial program for our youth. It will truly be a fun night with music, toasts and laughter, delicious food and fantastic auction items.” And Horizons Savannah board president Tom Oxnard says, “This is going to be a fun evening honoring and roasting a delightful Savannah institution and also raising money for local kids. What a combination!" The First Annual Horizons Savannah Roast & Toast will take place at Savannah Station at 6:30pm on Friday, April 11, 2014. This event is proudly sponsored by Mackinaw Power, a plant operated by Consolidated Asset Management Services. Tickets are $100 per person and include a fresh, locally-sourced dinner from Thrive Catering. To buy tickets for this wonderful event, please visit http://www.horizonssavannah.org/#!
