By: Techsil Ltd To keep up with demand - Techsil have introduced a number of optically clear encapsulants that are proving extremely popular within the Electronics and LED manufacturing industries. The range of products available are specially designed to offer an excellent refractive index, great UV stability and provide protection from vibration, thermal shock and harsh environmental factors, such as moisture ingress. Popular Applications for Techsil’s LED Range · LED light engines · Linear modules · Luminaires · Housings · Architectural lighting · Security and flood lighting · Outdoor LEDs · Oceanic LEDs · Panel mounted LEDs · PCB mountings VT2420, RTV28418 & RTV27844 are the most popular products offered by Techsil to the LED industry. VT2420 is a fast-curing, optically clear polyurethane encapsulant. It is UV stable and wont yellow, offering bubble resistance and excellent light transmission. The properties of this clear compound are best suited in LED applications where environmental and mechanical protection are important such as outdoor lighting used for pathways, buildings and signage. VT2420 is crystal clear and UV stable by design, its low viscosity makes it easy to dispense and with no sticky surface. Once cured, VT2420 is semi-flexible and moisture resistant. VT2420 is available with different hardnesses: · VT2420 LV – 70 Shore A · VT2420 HD – 75 Shore A (scratch resistant) RTV28418 Pearl is a two-component, low viscosity, 18 shore A potting compound / encapsulant that cures at room temperature to a soft pliable rubber. RTV28418 will cure in deep sections without additional heating or moisture. RTV28418 adheres without need of a primer to most materials, including metals, plastics and ceramics; typical of those found in electronic assemblies. Low viscosity allows easy flow in and around complex parts, providing excellent electrical insulation and shock resistance. The cure rate of RTV28418 can be accelerated by heat. The excellent electrical properties make RTV278418 an ideal choice for both high and low voltage electrical assemblies. The soft, rubbery property of RTV28418 cushions against mechanical shock and vibration. RTV28418 is clear enough to allow visual observation of components during pouring and after cure, the clarity lends to easy identification, repair and replacement of components. RTV28418 is available with either a clear or blue catalyst. RTV27844 is a crystal clear liquid which cures at room temperature forming a high strength silicone rubber. The 2 part compound has a low viscosity, making it easily pourable and comes in a handy 10:1 mix ratio. Once cured, RTV27844 has a 44 Shore A hardness and is used for protection of electronic components and assemblies against shock, vibration, moisture, ozone, dust, chemicals, and other environmental hazards by potting or encapsulation of the components and assemblies. The optical clarity of RTV27844 makes it suitable for applications such as potting solar cells for maximum light transmission and electronic assemblies where component identification is necessary or desirable. This also allows visual inspection for easy identification and repair of encapsulated parts. RTV27844 will cure in deep sections or enclosed assemblies without exotherm and offers low shrinkage, its chemical composition contains no solvents making it easy and practical to use on production lines. RTV27844’s reversion resistance and hydrolytic stability permits use in high humidity environments at elevated temperatures and retains its elastomeric properties at temperatures up to 204°C. The Techsil LED range includes silicones, polyurethanes, epoxies and greases and offers solutions ranging from encapsulation, potting and protection to thermal management materials which dissipate heat from the rear of the diode.
