By: Chickasaw Nation Video Network Chickasaw.tv is where the Chickasaw Nation’s past and present come together. Hundreds of interviews with tribalofficials, community leaders and elders were conducted to create the 6 channels and over 1,500 videos of in-depth profiles and stories available at www.chickasaw.tv. Interviewees include many notable Chickasaws, such as U.S. Rep. Tom Cole and NASA astronaut John Herrington. Tribal historians and anthropologists complete the picture, putting the story of the Chickasaw people into perspective by connecting the relationships between scholarly research, oral history and today’s thriving Chickasaw Nation. The new Chickasaw.tv features an interactive and informational History & Culture channel. This educational tool brings to life the ancestors and historical events that shaped the Chickasaws’ past as well as the people dedicating their lives to preserving their cultural legacy for future generations. The Health & Wellness channel provides valuable information about health issues faced by Native Americans—such as diabetes warning signs and treatment—and the various health services offered by the Chickasaw Nation. The creative world of the Chickasaw Nation is showcased on the network's Arts & Humanities channel with profiles and videos of today’s Chickasaw artists. The Language channel provides lessons, programs and other resources for learning the Chickasaw language, and Respect the Spark is a new channel that highlights Chickasaw innovators. Originally launched in 2010 under the leadership of Governor Bill Anoatubby of the Chickasaw Nation, Chickasaw.tv is the first online video network of its kind by a Native American tribe. “While the Chickasaw Nation is headquartered in Oklahoma, our members are scattered across the U.S. and around the world,” said Governor Anoatubby. “Our intention with Chickasaw.tv was to create a repository—a digital Smithsonian, if you will—to document our culture, legacy and traditions for future generations. It will allow Chickasaws, no matter where they live, to connect with our rich history, experience the pride that comes from being Chickasaw and discover the many opportunities available to them through our programs and services. Beyond that, we hope that Chickasaw.tv will help the general public become better acquainted with the long and storied history of our nation.” Chickasaw.tv is not only for Chickasaws—it is for everyone who would like to become better acquainted with the history and thriving culture of the Chickasaw Nation. This deep well of information and news is constantly updated with stories about the Chickasaw Nation and the Native American community.
