Follow on Google News | Celebrate NJ’s 350th Anniversary at the American Conference on Diversity’s Diversity Stride WalkWalkers from across New Jersey will be showing their Garden State pride during the American Conference on Diversity’s Annual Diversity Stride Walk-a-Thon on Saturday, June 14, at Buccleuch Park in New Brunswick, NJ. Enjoy live entertainment, refreshments, music, face-painting, and games beginning at 10:30 a.m., with the step off at 11:30 a.m. Diversity Stride is complimentary and open to all individuals and organizational teams. Besides investing in your health during the walk-a-thon, this annual event helps to raise funds to support the American Conference on Diversity youth education and leadership development programs. This year’s goal is $100,000. The American Conference on Diversity youth-education programs are essential to New Jersey’s future. They are designed to build knowledge and skills around diversity, anti-bullying, and social-justice issues for tomorrow’s leaders. Some of our youth initiatives include Manytown (regional human-relations youth forums), Awareness to Action (customized interactive youth workshops), College Connection (for higher-education students to create both personal and intellectual learning), and the signature Lead for Diversity (LFD), a year-long program that begins with an intensive summer residential retreat experience. LFD brings teams of students from high schools across New Jersey together to engage in experiential workshops, small group discussions, and action planning around social justice and diversity issues. During the summer, student teams work together to create an action plan specific to their school or district, which they implement during the ensuing school year. The action plan has the potential to reach the entire school population. Each year, the LFD schools’ action plans impact an estimated 20,000 New Jersey students.
