March 14, 2014 - PRLog -- As the March 29th date fast approaches for the African Arts and Fashion Week in DC, new updates to the participation and anticipation continues to grow for this event. The African Arts and Fashion Initiative is a Non-Government Organization which was launched on Sunday 4th August, 2013 at the Dorchester Hotel, UK. The Aim of the Initiative is to promote Africa on the rise, showcasing its rich cultural heritage and talent globally. Thereby creating opportunities for empowering the African youth. The Emphasis is on driving an African Arts and Style Renaissance to mobilize, sensitize and most importantly, empower the array of talented designers and artists in Africa. AAFI promotes and organizes exhibitions and forums to showcase African Art and Antiques, African Fashion, African Music and all things Made in Africa. Quarterly journals and other materials are published to promote African Arts and Style.

Maureen Umeh, Emmy Award Winning anchor and reporter of Fox News 5 DC will be Co-Hosting the African Arts and Fashion Week in DC. Maureen joined the FOX 5 news team in September 2002, after serving as one of the primary anchors for the late evening newscasts at WSPA-TV; the CBS affiliate in the Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina. Maureen has been honored with several awards for her work. They include an Emmy for Best Investigative Series and Best Newscast. She has also been honored by many organizations, including the South Carolina Television and Arts Association; the Illinois Broadcaster's Association and the NAACP.

Looking forward to the Red Carpet? African Red Carpet Queen Yvonne Vixen Ekwere named the Official Red Carpet Host. Yvonne ‘Vixen’ Ekwere is an Award-Winning TV presenter, Entertainment Correspondent and News Producer with world renowned broadcaster Silver Bird Television. The Akwa Ibom state native is also a burgeoning Singer/Songwriter, Fashion Designer and Actress and with her captivating E-Weekly Television show, she is grabbed the attention and hearts of many young Nigerians across the country.

A three-time Future Awards nominee, Dynamix Awards TV personality of the Year 2010, Exquisite Lady Of the Year (ELOY) TV Presenter of the Year 2011, FAB Magazine TV Presenter of the year 2011 and City People Awards Most Stylish TV Presenter of the Year, Yvonne ‘Vixen’ Ekwere is also a budding jeweler (I-Bling), fashion consultant (Sparkle-Pro Consulting) and youth ambassador for the Brown Heart Foundation among many other significant achievements.

Isis Model Agency is bringing beautiful African Models to walk the runway. Isis Models, run by Mrs. Joan Okorodudu, is one of the biggest modelling agencies in Africa. They recently signed 3 top models, Rukky Imalele, Kimmie Adams and Nwodo Chinko. In Nigeria, the Next Super Model contest has been held for a few years and all selected models automatically get signed up for ISIS Models agency.

Award Winning Designer and the CEO of The African Arts Fashion Week, Uche Ibezue, is bringing the world to Washington DC as AAFWDC launches.
