What: During its 13th Biennial Debutante Ball, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Theta Pi Omega Chapter will present 17 debutantes to society. As part of the presentation, debutantes and other participants will receive scholarships and book awards to be used for higher education. Following nine months of workshops, community service and dance rehearsals, 17 refined young women will make their debut in splendid fashion during Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Theta Pi Omega Chapter’s 13th Biennial Debutante Ball, A Pink and Green Fantastic Voyage. Melanie L. Burney, President of Theta Pi Omega Chapter, commented, “Chosen from amongst the most academically talented and civic-minded high school juniors and seniors in southern New Jersey, our debutantes are truly the brightest and best.” Clad in beautiful white ball gowns, the debutantes will dance several waltz numbers before being formally presented to society. To complement the presentation of the debutantes, 20 escorts and 13 junior debutantes will participate in the festivities. More than 600 guests, including family and friends, will gather to see the presentation. This year, former debutantes—who are now mothers of participants— Founded in 1990 as a means to empower young people to succeed in life, the chapter’s biennial cotillion has grown to become one of the region’s premier social events. Since the inception of the cotillion, in excess of $300,000 in scholarships has been awarded to more than 500 participants.
