Follow on Google News | Summer Learning Program to Run Online Summer Reading ChallengeThinkStretch Summer Learning Program announces creation of online summer reading challenge for elementary students.
By: ThinkStretch Summer Learning Program Since its inception in 2007, ThinkStretch has been creating effective, engaging solutions for preventing summer learning loss in grades K through 8. In addition to providing essential math review, the program encourages children to read for at least 20 minutes a day. ThinkStretch consistently earns praise from both teachers and parents for its success in keeping children engaged in learning throughout the year. The ThinkStretch Summer Reading Challenge, a new component of the ThinkStretch program, will provide an additional incentive for students to prioritize reading and skill maintenance during the summer months. Participants will be able to create a personalized online account for logging their reading minutes. "Logging reading minutes online builds a child's independence and a sense of ownership around maintaining reading skills,” says Donna Lasinski, creator and author of ThinkStretch. “Because the child can choose any book to read, he is more likely to both enjoy and to complete the book. Building a pile of virtual raffle tickets for logging minutes is the icing on the cake!" As they read and complete related comprehension questions, participants will earn raffle tickets, with which they can enter to win a number of prize drawings. Schools also have the option to personalize the program, creating additional prizes that resonate with their student population. Sign up for the summer reading challenge will begin on April 15, 2014. Go to http://www.thinkstretch.com and click on the Yellow Button, "Sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge" to register. The ThinkStretch Summer Reading Challenge event will run from June 1 to August 31, 2014. About ThinkStretch ThinkStretch is a workbook-based summer learning program based in Ann Arbor, Mich.
