Media Invited - Jack & Jill Montgomery County 2014 Golden LEGACY Ball

BETHESDA, Md. - March 26, 2014 - PRLog -- The Jack and Jill of America, Inc., Montgomery County Maryland Chapter will host its 3rd Biennial Cotillion-Beautillion Ball on Saturday, March 29, 2014, beginning at 6 p.m., at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda, 7400 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, Maryland 20814. The organization will introduce to society 11 Debutantes and Beaux from high schools throughout Maryland and Washington, D.C.  The theme of the event, is “Golden LEGACY: Celebrating Leadership, Excellence, Grace, Achievement, Chivalry and Youth,” and Nationally Syndicated Radio Host Marcellus "The Bassman" Shepard ("Cool Jazz Countdown" & WEAA/88.9 FM's "In The Groove") will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

The 2013-2014 Golden Legacies undefined scholars, class officers, mentors, musicians, athletes, volunteers and future leaders of the community undefined are: Miss Camille D. Cade, Silver Spring; Miss Nahja S. Franklin, Washington, D.C.; Miss Elana M. Harris, Silver Spring; Mister Xavier D. Hill, Rockville; Mister Adam G. Hollins, Adelphi; Miss Demetrea L. Joyner, Laurel; Mister Augusto D. Macedo, Jr., Olney; Mister Demitri N. McCray-Buggs, Burtonsville; Miss Carmen O. Moore, Silver Spring; Mister Jeffrey M. Powell-Young,  Silver Spring; and Miss Alexus M. Richards, Owings Mills.

The Ball is the culmination of an eight-month program designed to promote high self-esteem and standards, strong morals and values, continuous education, refined social skills, respect, service and friendship among these young men and women. Participants have performed hours of community service; taken part in workshops designed to improve leadership skills; and met with community and business leaders.

The Debutantes and Beaux also raised thousands of dollars through the sale of advertisements for the event’s Souvenir Journal, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the National Center for Children and Families and the Jack and Jill of America Foundation.

Jack and Jill of America, Inc., founded in 1938, is the oldest and largest African American family organization in the U.S., with more than 200 chapters nationwide. The Montgomery County Maryland Chapter was chartered in 1962 and has become an integral part of the Montgomery County community, exposing children to educational and cultural opportunities, extolling the importance of community service, and helping them develop leadership skills and life-long friendships.
