Chess Champion and Teacher Makes His Move Into D.C. Public Schools

WASHINGTON - March 30, 2014 - PRLog -- Principal, Dr. Deborah A. Cox of LaSalle- Backus Education Campus in Northeast D.C. will host Chess guru and founder of Be Someone, Orrin “Checkmate” Hudson, April 2 - 4, 2014 in order to develop practical skills and techniques to overcome obstacles in life through the illustration and intellectual game of chess.

Hudson hopes to piqué students’ interest in the game, assist in turning an after school chess club into national chess contenders and promote and motivate students to make calculated moves through empowerment - by pushing kings around.

He is eagerly “looking forward to spending time with the kids. Teaching the children to think strategically about their future makes my heart sing,” said Orrin Hudson.

Be Someone stresses such ideas as responsibility, thinking before making decisions, and to be champions not only in the game of chess but also in life.  Be Someone is a campaign that speaks for itself:

As Orrin pitches his campaign, the goal is to teach at least a million youth around the world spreading messages of positivity using chess as an allegory. Mr. Hudson has impacted the lives of over 500,000 children and he will not rest until he is satisfied with successfully closing gaps and lessening negative statistics of youth.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation Headquarters will honor Hudson on April 4, 2014 for his service, leadership and his exceptional insight and success in reaching disadvantaged youth through the game of Chess.
