Understanding the Biocidal Products Regulation - Useful help now available

LANCASTER, U.K. - April 24, 2014 - PRLog -- The REACH Centre has published a useful guide to assist manufacturers and importers of products and articles that contain pesticides, detergents, preservatives and other biocidal products. Containing definitions and an explanation of the product-types, the guide provides a handy overview and helps affected manufacturers and importers to understand the Biocidal Products Regulation.

The guide complements The REACH Centre's Biocidal Services, offering training and consultancy, such as a scoping assessment, member state notifications, product authorisation, active substance approval and advice on treated articles.

As of 1st September 2013 the Biocidal Products Regulation No. 528/2012 (BPR) has been in force in the EU and concerns the placing on the market of biocidal products, the active substances used in biocidal products, and treated articles incorporating active substances. The BPR repealed and replaced the Biocidal Products Directive 98/8/EC (BPD). Whilst existing active substances are still being evaluated in ECHA's Work Programme, both the BPR and national Member State legislation may be applicable to place a biocidal product on the market.
