SANTA MONICA, Calif. - April 24, 2014 - PRLog -- The American Strays Canine Survey is a component of the American Strays Project. The American Strays Project was developed over 3 years to understand the scope of the stray dog problem in Detroit from a scientific perspective. See the American Strays Project, including preliminary data release statement here: http://www.WA2S.org/american-strays

The WA2S believes you cannot solve a problem without first defining the problem. In trying to understand and quantify the number - one that will be broken down and plotted for the public on Google maps - the American Strays Project team is able to understand the actual issues effecting a neighborhood. Once at the source and we communicate the actual problem, we believe the local stakeholders will be able to turn the faucet of problems off. The annual American Strays Canine Survey will allow all the stakeholders; government and non government alike, to measure their progress with their program deployments from year to year. In Detroit, the American Strays Project team released preliminary data in January and is hard at work developing interactive lesson plans for Detroit 5th graders as part of the solution. In Detroit, a lack of pet guardianship knowledge is a primary factor contributing to neglect, abuse, bites, breeding, roaming and a host of other behaviors that wear negatively on the community as a whole.

Key stakeholders in Detroit such as the Michigan Humane Society are already using the data. David Williams, interim CEO and President of the Michigan Humane Society wrote: "The American Strays Canine Survey conducted by the World Animal Awareness Society has provided valuable and reality based information that will assist the Michigan Humane Society (MHS) and other key stakeholders within the city of Detroit."

The challenges regarding homeless and stray animals within a large urban space like Dallas are significant and it is imperative that we collectively and efficiently maximize resources to better the lives of animals and people within the city.

Over the coming months the WA2S American Strays Project team will also be meeting with government and NGO leaders in Dallas to discuss preliminary data.

There are many things dog friendly people of Dallas can do to participate. Volunteer to be feet on the street, digitally spotting and logging Dallas's stray dog populations using state of the art technology while saving the street dogs. If you are not able to volunteer, that's OK, you can donate to, or become a sponsor of the American Strays Project - Dallas and help underwrite the education, technology, software, and infrastructure for Dallas.
