Diane DeBella of the University of Colorado, Boulder Issues Call for Submissions to Women Writers

BOULDER, Colo. - May 5, 2014 - PRLog -- A Call for Submissions has been issued by Author Diane DeBella of the University of Colorado, Boulder.

In April 2014, DeBella launched the #iamsubject project, and began the call for submissions for an anthology of women's stories about life-changing moments of self-recognition - of being subject of their own lives.

The project is an off-shoot of Diane DeBella's memoir, I Am Subject: Sharing Our Truths to Reclaim Our Selves, released November 2013 which conveys women’s experiences by weaving together memoir, literary texts and criticism, and student reflection. http://www.iamsubject.com

DeBella's book draws from the written experiences of her students, and those of noted women authors including:

The online magazine Women Writers, Women Books has teamed up with DeBella to promote the project and publish the book.

"I invite you to share your own #iamsubject story, a powerful moment when you reclaimed your self as subject of your own life," DeBella writes of the project that will result in an anthology on the Call for Submissions page of her website.

Contributors can submit their non-fiction stories directly to DeBella by sending an email to diane@iamsubject.com. Or, they can publish their story on their own blog and link back to the #iamsubject project. Contributors are encouraged to email DeBella their intention to participate.

The #IAmSubject Anthology will be published as an ebook with an option to go to print by Women Writers, Women Books publisher, ClearSight Creative Resources.

The #iamsubject project encourages women to learn from the lives of women writers who have written about their lives, and to tell their own truths as part of claiming or reclaiming their own lives and helping other women along the way.

As a teacher, speaker and writer, Diane DeBella has spent twenty years examining women writers, women’s history and feminist issues.  She currently teaches at the University of Colorado in Boulder and has work published in numerous journals, including California Quarterly, Vermont Literary Review and Montpelier.  She is also the author of the recently published memoir, I Am Subject: Sharing Our Truths to Reclaim Our Selves.

Diane DeBella has received the CU Women Who Make a Difference Award and the CU-LEAD Alliance Faculty Appreciation Award. She recently completed a five-year term as a board member for Courage is Change, a local non-profit whose mission is to end the cycle of interpersonal violence by empowering children, youth and adults to create non-violent communities through healthy relationship development.

Through her organization I Am Subject, DeBella offers workshops and presentations on issues that affect girls and women of all ages and during all life stages, providing a safe space to increase understanding and awareness, as well as develop a stronger system of support and community.
