Follow on Google News | Don’t miss the final of Top Model of Colour Season 8 in LondonAfter a year‐long competition and much deliberating from the judging panel, the finalists of Top Model of Colour have been selected and the winner will be announced at TMC’s spectacular finale at The Grand Connaught Rooms in the West End 24 May.
By: Mahogany International Creator of Top Model of Colour, Sola Oyebade said, “Based on the modelling industry in the UK and across the world currently, there is no doubt that the industry generally has not yet realised, or is not yet willing to accept, the need for employing and using more models of colour in their advertising campaigns. Top Model of Colour will continually play a pivotal role in promoting models of colour and to be a catalyst for change in the industry.” Due to its reputation within the industry, TMC winners have gone on to successful modelling careers with significant contracts in the fashion and entertainment world. The first step is as simple as entering the competition, as their motto ‘in it to win it’ suggests, but winning is no easy feat. TMC’s reputation is in part due to the fact that it is organised as a professional competition, rather than a beauty pageant, with applicants required to do a portfolio, individual prejudging and partake in numerous rehearsals prior to the finale, as well as answering questions on modelling and the fashion industry. Although models hoping to work in high fashion compete against commercial models, the competition structure means that all competitors are on an equal footing when it comes to judging. Hosted by presenter Gayle Thompson, actress and model for Mahogany Models modelling agency, the TMC finale event is sure to be a wonderful celebration of models of colour, both up‐and‐coming and already established. Entertainment will include performances by Mekeart Tribe traditional dancers and singers P.Nology from The X Factor 2012 and Astride Costa, while delicious Caribbean food and refreshments will be provided by London‐based CJSUBS and VIPs will be invited to an exclusive reception. TMC is looking forward to welcoming fashionistas, modelling industry guests and celebrities to the eighth annual Top Model of Colour final, which will see the culmination of another thrilling modelling competition and which will hopefully help encourage diversity in fashion, entertainment and commercial modelling. Don’t miss your opportunity to get a sneak preview of the faces of the future!
