Fifth Year for Rotary NSW Police Awards

SYDNEY - May 9, 2014 - PRLog -- Achievements by NSW Police officers and employees will be celebrated on Friday November 7th with the gala dinner held at the Shangri La Hotel in Sydney.

Now in its fifth year, the awards have grown with six categories plus the overall title of NSW Police Officer of the Year. The event is hosted by the Rotary Club of Sydney.

Rotary Clubs across NSW recognise the achievements of their local officers with a district based awards system however the overall state awards are unique to NSW.

NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione says the awards have become a prestigious highlight for all police officers, recognising the work they do.

“Every year these awards have grown. The numbers of nominations have grown as Rotarians, members of the community and Police Commanders nominate officers and staff from within local commands, specialist and corporate areas for their outstanding work.

“The awards night itself has grown also with increased attendance each year thanks to the support of Rotary, the community and business and also officers supporting their colleagues who have been nominated as finalists. Last year we had a record 420 nominations.

Geoff Wilbow, President of the Rotary Club of Sydney, said Rotary has a long and proud tradition of supporting police at the local level.

“We are now five years into creating a new tradition with the prestigious state-wide award. The notion of serving the community is common to both Rotary and police. We are looking forward to a record number of nominations this year.”

The categories are:

Field Operations – Police Officer of the Year

Specialist Operations/Corporate Services – Police Officer of the Year

NSW Rotary Community Award

Volunteer of the Year Award

Police Employee of the Year Award

Customer Service Excellence Award

NSW Police Officer of the Year (overall)

Any funds raised from the Awards night are donated to NSW Police Legacy and the Rotary Foundation.
