Aly Is Speaking Up For Success

TUNBRIDGE WELLS, U.K. - June 1, 2014 - PRLog -- Aly 56 from West Malling Kent, won her place in the finals after initially winning her local heat and then the regional South East District Speech competition.

She describes her winning speeches as informative, educational and humorous. After initially talking about women’s fascination with shoes, Aly went on to tell her audience about hormones and the menopause before culminating at the finals, with a speech about the way men and women sometimes misunderstand and misinterpret each other.

Aly explains: ‘in speaking competitions, many aspects are considered including: how entertaining and informative the speech is, the gestures used, rapport with the audience, structure, language and logical flow. I was absolutely thrilled to come third at such a prestigious event. I’ve been with the local speaking club for about seven years and thoroughly recommend it. It’s amazing that still, only 25per cent of speakers are female, I really urge more women to come and take part.’

Whilst there is a clear discipline in competitive speaking, one of the ways that Aly uses her skills in everyday life is as Damsels in Success Director for Tunbridge Wells. ‘I just love building rapport with my members and talking with them about all sorts of topics which can help them in business and in life. The value of the group is also amazing, with women pulling together and sharing skills and experience to help each other.  I joined as a member just over eight months ago and when the opportunity came to lead the group, I jumped at the chance. It really is a great place to build confidence and grow yourself and your business. Women travel from all over Kent and Sussex to attend our monthly meetings.’
