By: Susan Fiedler & The Center “I'm thrilled that Las Vegas Tapestry will be on display at The Center," said Sola. ”It’s a wonderful opportunity to share the Tapestry with the community of Las Vegas and support The Center's work.” Sola spent years weaving her vision of the Las Vegas Boulevard into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Following completion in 2007, the Tapestry, which features a 3D effect, turning observation into engagement and interaction, was on display at Trifecta Gallery in Downtown Las Vegas. “We are excited that the Tapestry, such a high-profile piece, will be displayed at The Center,”said Tom Kovach, interim CEO of The Center. “Sola created a piece that captures the spirit of community inclusion, which is consistent with The Center’s mission.” The Las Vegas Tapestry is literally a creation of its community, Sola sourced nearly everything for the 7’ x 11’ piece from local thrift stores. Materials used include silk, cotton, wool yarns, beads and metallic thread. Sola’s approach began simply. She found a residence near the Hard Rock Hotel and lived modestly in order to put all of her energy into the Tapestry, capturing every detail from a single street lamp to the tallest building. Over a three year period, she spent thousands of hours observing The Strip from countless angles. Without taking a single photograph, she then spent over 8,000 hours weaving the Tapestry. The setting of the Tapestry is 2007 when Las Vegas was at its peak of excitement, shortly before the city experienced its crash. The Tapestry pays homage to some of the best times in the city. Mesmerized by the sparkle that is only found on The Strip, Sola felt a sense of urgency to document Las Vegas when she learned that many iconic Strip properties were ready for implosion. The Las Vegas Tapestry may be viewed at The Center during regular business hours, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. More information and directions may be found at www.TheCenterLV.com (http://www.thecenterlv.org/ About Sola Sola Fiedler, simply known as Sola, is a senior Canadian fiber artist, best known for her large-scale tapestry tributes to the cities that have hosted the Olympic Games.
