The Memphis-born tenor sax giant recording seminal ’60s dates with Miles Davis (My Funny Valentine and Seven Steps to Heaven) and Herbie Hancock (Maiden Voyage). He’s been rehearsing this new ensemble—featuring Alvin & Friends favorites Alex McCabe (alto sax) and Paul Odeh (piano)—for two years.
