Honda Honored as a “Highway Safety Hero”The Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety for Advancing Pedestrian Safety have recognized Honda's commitment to advancing auto safety.
By: Gateway Honda Honda was the sole company to earn the “Highway Safety Hero” recognition this year. Accepting the award on Honda's behalf, Chuck Thomas, chief safety engineer at Honda R&D Americas, Inc. said "For more than a decade, Honda has focused on reducing the threat of injuries to pedestrians as part of our ‘Safety for Everyone' approach. As we continue to research other advanced technologies such as vehicle-to-pedestrian sensing technologies, this work will be an integral part of our dream to eliminate motor vehicle collisions entirely." While vehicles like the 2014 Honda Odyssey are receiving special recognition for being the only ones in their classes to earn the Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS, Honda is going above and beyond what is expected in auto safety in so many other ways. Honda's new technology, including standard rearview cameras on their vehicles, is just one aspect of their approach to auto safety—enhancing driver visibility and awareness while encouraging their attention to remain on the road instead of on their gadgets. Broadly applying new tech like lane departure and forward collision warnings is another hallmark of their excellence as a safe automaker, alerting drivers to potential dangers they may not be seeing.
