By: J Maddox William Jermaine Maddox professionally known as J. Maddox grew up in a small town 40 miles from the city of Atlanta called Locust Grove with his parents. J. Maddox’s family learned early that he enjoyed singing. J. Maddox would sing around the house, in the car, for relatives, and at the church. Although he sang all the time, the song bird considered the beginning of his singing journey to be when he gave his life to Christ and when he was invited to join a well known gospel choir in the county called, “The Gospel Ensemble.” Being invited to join was definitely an honor for the dedicated young man of God because he was only 11 years old and the age requirement was age 18. It was during J Maddox’s membership with “The Gospel Ensemble” that he had the opportunity to sing his first solo “Im Still Holding On” at a gospel quartet musical. From that point on he wanted God to use him, and he wanted to sing even more. J. Maddox yearned to please God and to get vocal training. I was classically trained throughout high school and college. During his classical training J. was blessed to sing under the direction of Moses Hogan and Robert Shaw and was able to grace the stage of the prestigious Carnegie Hall in 2002 after being chosen from an elite group of singers all over the United States. In the midst of doing what he loved, J. Maddox was attacked with sickness in his body at age 13. J. Madox was diagnosed with resistant hypertension, high blood pressure. Although high blood pressure is common, his was not. J. Maddox’s illness was resistant to all medications that were attempted, and his blood pressure could not be regulated. The life of J Maddox was consumed with taking medication and coping with its side effects to his illness and the side effects lead him to a feeling of unfairness and anger. His anger would even be uncontrollable at times, and when his anger peaked, the only peace he found was in the Holy Spirit. I could hear the voice of my grandmother say, “Sometimes you have to still away.” I would lie in my closet and listen to worship music and become overtaken by the Holy Spirit said “J. Maddox” He knew that the desire to worship was a God given desire that was placed inside of him before birth. It was during those times that God taught Maddox how to worship Him and taught the true power of His presence. J. Maddox was licensed as a minister in March 2014 at The Restoration of Life through Jesus Christ Ministries by his pastors, Pastor Gregory and Junie Kelley. As J. Maddox desired to seek him more, God placed him before great men and afforded J. Maddox the opportunity to sing with people like: Donald Lawrence, Hezekiah Walker, Yolanda Adams, Erika Campbell, Dwayne Woods, BET Sundays Best, and How Sweet the sound choir competition’ God has now launched J. Maddox out to cultivate ministry in the way that was given to him. J. Maddox always prays that his music is healing for the hurt, light for the lost, and testimonies for the test. The lyrics of J. Maddox will convey personal scenarios and their victorious outcomes only with God’s help and guidance. J. Maddox is a positive voice in the gospel community and he continues to give back to humanity as a spiritual solider for the lord.
