As it's part in the celebration of New York's SeegerFest - a series of concerts and public events (July 17th - 21st) celebrating the lives and works of Pete and Toshi Seeger - New Street Communications has made the Kindle edition of the book availble for only 99 cents, slashing nine dollars off the normal list price of $9.99. All royalties from the sale of the book in its Kindle, Kobo, paper and audio editions are pledged to help support the programs of the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, co-founded by the Seegers in the 1960s. Pete Seeger vs. The Un-Americans chronicles the iconic folksinger's battles with the blacklist, his uncooperative testimony before the House Select Committee on Un-American Activities in 1955, and his eventual trial for contempt of Congress in 1961. After Seeger's conviction, he faced a year in Federal prison - a fate averted only by an appeals court throwing out the conviction on a technicality. British alt folk performer and political activist Billy Bragg says of the book: "Edward Renehan does a great job of shining a light into this dark episode of American history." As of July 22nd, the Kindle edition of the book will return to it's standard $9.99 price-point. To find the book on Amazon visit http://www.amazon.com/ End
