After graduating from Princeton University in 1951 with an A.B. degree in Economics, magna cum laude, he joined Wellington Management Company. In 1974, he founded The Vanguard Group, serving as chief executive and then senior chairman through 1999, and since then as President of its Bogle Financial Markets Research Center. In 1975, he founded the world’s first index mutual fund. With current fund assets under management totaling some $2.5 trillion, Vanguard is the largest mutual fund organization in the world.
