TRACY, Calif. - Aug. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- Mercadotec, leading provider of affordable web design and internet marketing services for small businesses, recently announced the launch of a search engine optimization (SEO) experiment to outline steps small businesses can take to rank in the top 10 in Google for competitive, strategically important keywords.

The experiment -- SEO Experiment: Ranking for "Affordable Web Design" -- is testing five search optimization tactics to help small businesses learn what simple actions they can take to get their website ranking in the top 10 of Google.

"The goal here is to see what web marketing tactics work. We want to test and share simple tactics you can do yourself to get more traffic to your website and through your door," said Nolan O'Brien, co-founder of MercadoTec and author of the experiment. "This is something our clients are very interested in. So, I thought it would be fun to turn this into a little experiment and share our results. The thing about scientific experiments is that they must be repeatable to be valid. Our goal with this experiment is to provide ideas you can try out and results you can replicate."

This experiment is literally taking a new website and getting it to compete with websites with hundreds of backlinks by employing a few simple steps. To start the experiment, MercadoTec ensured that its new website did not have any content indexed by Google for the terms “affordable web design.” Additionally, the new website's domain authority, according to Moz, was 1 out of 100, with zero backlinks.

The first three tactics being tested are outlined on the MercadoTec blog. Two of which are only available for download in a Secret SEO Tactics white paper. With each of the tactics, a number of sub-steps are outlined, giving small businesses owners the details they need to try the tactics out for themselves.

Tactic #1 describes tools small businesses can use to optimize their website to rank in search engines.

Tactic #2 describes how to write for both humans and search engine bots that crawl the web to index its content.

Tactic #3 describes how to design a page's content to foster engagement and send signals to Google bots that visitors find value in the page's content.

Tactics #4 and #5 describe two new "secret seo tactics" being tested by Mercadotec that have not been tested with clients to date. They are available for review by visiting Mercadotec's affordable web design experiment blog post and downloading the free Secret SEO Tactics pdf.
