Bringing the documentary filmmaking experience for the first time ever to the city of Boca Raton, DocMiami will also feature two special screenings during the Florida Documentary Film Festival. The opening night celebration will begin with cocktails and a special screening of This Land is a Skeleton at iPic Theatres and Tanzy Artisanal Italian Restaurant on September 11th. At The Willow Theatre audiences can look forward to the screening of the short documentary, A General’s Dream with on a special guest appearance by Major General Bernard Loeffke, U.S. Army soldier (retired) and U.N. World Peace Representative for the Educators of World Peace, artist and author Jacqueline Ripstein. Also slated is a special screening of In Love With Bolero, which will be presented by special guest Eloy Cepero, Cuban Music Historian, writer and television host of “Grandes Leyendas Musicales” on WGEN-TV in South Florida. The culminating activity will be the awards reception hosted Emmy Award winner, Mariana Rodriguez of NBC/Telemundo will honor the winning filmmakers and legendary drummer Tico Torres, who will be the recipient of the 2014 “El Rey” Tito Puente Contribution to the Arts Award. Dubbed “The Hitman,” Torres is a renowned musician best known as the drummer for the rock band Bon Jovi. The awards cocktail reception will take place September 13 at the Mizner Park Cultural Arts Center and will include a special performance by Tito Puente Jr. himself. The awards ceremony will also include performances by American Idol semi-finalist Tiffany Miranda and BMI Recording Artist Richard Warren Rappaport, among South Florida notables. Other notable standout films scheduled to be featured at Sugar Sand Park during the two-day affair are: Love is a Verb Narrated by Ashley Judd The Purple Rose, a comprehensive history of actor Jeff Daniels' Purple Rose Theatre Co. Hunger in America, narrated by 'Desperate Housewives' star, James Denton . Seeds of Hope, a feature-length documentary film about Hugh Jackman's life changing experience traveling to Ethiopia. Gone South: How Canada Invented Hollywood, interviews Canadian celebrities, such as Howie Mandel, David Foster, Alan Thicke, Alex Trebek, Shannon Tweed, Monty Hall, Arthur Hiller, Ted Kotcheff, Neve Campbell, Tommy Chong, Dave Thomas, Will Sasso, Harland Williams, David Shore, and Erin Karpluk.
