Comrie has made the environment a high priority throughout his time in public service. As former Chair of the City Council’s Land Use Committee, Comrie led passage of the Zone Green Text Amendment to improve energy efficiency and expand green-building practices. During his time on the Council, Comrie emphasized public health initiatives that aimed to improve the overall quality of life for his constituents, pushing for better and more accessible medical facilities in his district while also addressing the amount of air pollution occurring from truck traffic and JFK Airport. He also supported a wide range of environmental legislation that was a priority for NYLCV, from clean energy and recycling, to climate resiliency and electric vehicles. “Leroy Comrie has a strong record and an impressive knowledge of the many environmental challenges facing Southeast Queens.
