CHANDLER, Ariz. - Aug. 28, 2014 - PRLog -- Magic filled the air as kids climbed trees, slid down slides and bungee jumped high in the sky during a formal re-opening celebration that included an official proclamation from the Chandler Mayor on Saturday, August 23 at Makutu's Island, a popular indoor amusement area for kids.

Husband and wife owners Kiran Bapatla and Kiran Vedantam purchased Arizona's largest indoor amusement park in May 2014 and have invested nearly a half a million dollars in new features and safety upgrades to the 20,000-square-foot standalone building.

“Chandler is a great city for families and Kiran Bapatla and Kiran Vedantam are re-affirming this," said Chandler Vice Mayor Rick Heumann during the ceremony. "Makutu’s Island is not only providing a great place for Chandler’s families, but it is also driving the economy by creating jobs and supporting the community through its generous donations.”

Highlighting the ribbon cutting ceremony, with Vice Mayor Heumann, Arizona educators, business and community leaders, five Arizona beauty queens standing by, and dance performances Vedantam also announced that Makutu’s Island selected two local charities it will support this year. I-CAN Chandler and Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank will each receive a $1,000 donation.

“When we first moved to Chandler, we didn’t know anyone,” said Vedantam. “We are so touched by how this community has embraced us and our family. We will continue doing all we can to invest in Chandler and make it a city that future generations will be proud to call home.”

In an effort to strengthen its partnership and be a community asset, Makutu’s Island will also partner with local non-profits and schools to provide fundraisers and in-school and after-school programs at the facility.

An official check presentation to ICAN and Matthew’s Food Bank will take place at the Chandler City Hall in September.

Makutu’s Island is located at 6919 W. Ray Rd, in Chandler.
