Sun Shines For Exciting Fixture At Newton Abbot Racecourse

Sept. 11, 2014 - PRLog -- Ainsi Fideles stamped himself as an up-and-coming chaser for the future when beating the older and more experienced Lamb Or Cod to land the £11,000 North Devon Hospice Novices’ Chase at Newton Abbot on Monday 8th September.

The four-year-old Ainsi Fideles had shown real promise for trainer David Pipe, winning his last three races and earning a handicap mark of 145, just above that of his rival. He confirmed that good impression when taking the lead at the eighth fence and drawing right away from Lamb Or Cod for an easy 25 lengths win, with the other two runners even more strung out behind.

There was another £11,000 prize fund for the Newtonabbotracing.com Handicap Chase over an extended three and a quarter miles. Wiesentraum carried top weight of 11-12, but had to put in a lifetime best performance to win off his handicap mark. He didn’t quite manage to pull it off, never able to peg back Velator, who jumped to the lead four fences from home under Denis O’Regan, although staying on after the last to pass Barlow for second place.

The meeting got underway with the Newtonabbotrace On Twitter Conditional Jockeys’ Maiden Hurdle over two miles and a furlong.

Racegoers latched on to Upsanddowns from the Welsh stable of Evan Williams, sending him off a red-hot 2-5 favourite to open his account over the jumps.

Whilst not always fluent at his hurdles, Upsanddowns had no trouble in leading all the way to win unchallenged by 28 lengths from Northern Bay.

On Tour and Hawker looked to be the two to fight out the finish of the Paignton Zoo Novices’ Hurdle.  Although a winner on the Flat, Hawker was well beaten in his only start over hurdles and racegoers made On Tour the 5-6 favourite to add to his Irish point-to-point and two British bumper wins.

They got it spot on, as On Tour made all the running in the hands of Paul Maloney, beating Hawker by seven lengths and looking a useful horse in the making.

The consistent Bathwick Man made it a double for trainer David Pipe and jockey Tom Scudamore when taking the At The Races Sky 415 Handicap Hurdle, before amateur rider Robert Hawker and Finish The Story took the Newton Abbot Racecourse On Facebook Handicap Hurdle, as Johnny Farrelly’s charge was driven out to follow up a recent Worcester win.

In the concluding SIS At The Heart Of Betting Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race, Barry Geraghty’s trip from Ireland to partner Nicolas Chauvin proved worthwhile, as he became the fourth winning favourite of the afternoon.

There are three fixtures left this season at Newton Abbot Racecourse, with the next one taking place on Friday 19th September. Racing for the afternoon will start at 1:50pm, with gates opening at 11:50pm.

Tickets for the day can be bought online until 5pm on Thursday 18th September. Tickets will be available to buy at the gate on the day. Children aged 16 and under and students with a valid student ID / NUS card can enjoy free entry to the racecourse.
