Scott Walker Outlines Drug-Testing Proposal in Campaign Stop at MECA & Technology Machine

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Sept. 18, 2014 - PRLog -- Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker used a campaign stop September 15 at anilox sleeves and carbon fiber sleeves manufacturer MECA & Technology Machine Inc. to defend his proposal to require drug tests of people seeking unemployment assistance.

“This is really about compassion,” Walker told employees and reporters gathered at MECA & Technology Machine’s design and manufacturing facility for aluminum anilox sleeves and carbon fiber anilox sleeves. “It’s not about making it hard to get government assistance; it’s about making it easier to get a job.”

Walker, who is facing Democratic challenger Mary Burke in the November election, detailed three campaign focuses during his visit to MECA & Technology Machine. Walker also pledged to lower property taxes and income taxes, and to keep tuition frozen at Wisconsin’s technical colleges and state universities.

“From our standpoint, (the drug-test proposal) is not a penalty,” Walker said, adding that the proposal would apply only to able-bodied, working-age, childless adults. “Ours is about helping to get people into the workforce.”

MECA & Technology Machine employs approximately 50 people at its Green Bay, Wis., facilities. The company’s carbon fiber anilox sleeves offer the strength of steel with only about one-quarter of the weight. Modern bridge sleeves must withstand the stresses of high-speed presses running at the tightest of tolerances.
