School Board Candidate Deloris Roach to Hold “Pride Night” Reception

VACAVILLE, Calif. - Sept. 23, 2014 - PRLog -- Vacaville School Board candidate Deloris Roach will hold a community outreach reception on Wednesday, October 1, at Fuso’s Italian Restaurant, 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, in Vacaville.  The event entitled “Building Pride in Our Schools” will feature a presentation by Roach on school issues and how the community can help, followed by a question-and-answer session.  Refreshments will be served.  The public is invited and donations are encouraged, however no one will be turned away.  For more information, please visit the candidate’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/Roach4schoolboard .

“We have some good schools, but we also have some that are performing consistently below mandated standards.  This is just one of many issues that the district needs to acknowledge and address, working with the community,” Roach says.

If Roach is elected she plans to work on increasing the district’s outreach to parents, particularly parents of English-learners and disadvantaged students; closing the “achievement gap” at schools that are underperforming; advocating for better internal and external communications with parents, teachers and the community; looking for innovative ways to shore up the district’s budget; and working to increase local control of education.

Roach is a public relations and public affairs consultant and has owned a business for the past 10 years.  She worked for 15 years in the public sector, including ten with the City of Fairfield in public information management.  She also worked for several years in the private sector in advertising, radio and television.  She served for five years on the Board of Trustees for the Emery Unified School District.

She holds a BA degree in journalism from UC Berkeley and a masters’ in radio, television communications from San Francisco State University.  She is the Mother of four grown children and has a grandchild in one of Vacaville’s middle schools.  Her campaign endorsements include State Assemblymember Jim Frazier; State Assemblymember Mariko Yamada; Solano County Board of Supervisors Chair Linda Seifert; Solano County Board of Supervisors Vice Chair Erin Hannigan; Solano Community College Governing Board Vice President A.
