MACCLESFIELD, U.K. - Oct. 3, 2014 - PRLog -- MACCLESFIELD MP David Rutley arrived with a toothbrush in his hand when he paid a visit to the nursery children and staff at the town’s Broken Cross Primary Academy.

For he was there to see the renowned Dental Playbox project in action.  The Playbox – launched by national children’s charity Action for Sick Children - aims to teach children about the importance of healthy eating and dental hygiene through play.

The box includes hand-puppets and games, stories, and tooth brushes of course, to rein in the attention of  youngsters and to teach them the importance of good dental hygiene.

Since its launch, the Dental Playbox Project has visited more than 19,000 children at  schools and nurseries around the region to enable youngsters to combat the threat of tooth decay.

At the event, Broken Cross Primary Academy Headteacher, Brian Wilkinson said, “Dental health is an important issue across the country, but can be tackled really effectively through better education, especially at an early age. That is why projects like Dental Playbox are so important, since they successfully make a serious personal health issue into something that is fun, safe and accessible”.

Mr Rutley added, “Research suggests that 46% of children have been admitted to hospital for a tooth extraction, which is an alarming statistic. I would urge more schools to support projects like this one, and hope that people of all ages are aware of the importance of their dental health. I would like to thank Dental Playbox and Broken Cross Primary Academy for taking forward this initiative”.

Speaking from her High Lane, Stockport HQ, Val Jackson, Chief Executive of Action for Sick Children said:” Dental Playbox is delighted to attend schools like Broken Cross Primary to help youngsters understand the importance of good oral hygiene.

“Children enjoy Playbox visits because they are great fun as well as being extremely useful in helping children care for their teeth and protect their health.

“We are also very grateful for the support of people like David Rutley who recognises the importance of what we are doing and gives his time to deliver the message that good oral hygiene is crucial for our youngsters.”
