Quest for the World’s Toughest USB Drive Nears End

MILTON, Ontario - Oct. 6, 2014 - PRLog -- More than two years after starting on a quest to build the world’s toughest USB drive, Emergent Game Design founder Dave Humphrey is ready to release it to the world through a KickStarter campaign. The Virtually Indestructible USB Drive (VIUD) has been born through years of design and testing many prototypes to achieve an extremely tough flash drive in a good looking package.

To get an idea exactly how tough the VIUD is consider some of the tests it has managed to survive:

   - Boiled in water for 1 hour
   - Baked in the oven at 200°C (390°F) for 10 minutes
   - Placed in a wood fire (600°C, 1100°F) for 60 seconds
   - Exposed to a 2000°C (3600°F) flame for 30 seconds
   - Fired at 100 km/hr (60 m/hr) with G-Forces up to 1800G, equivalent to a drop from a 15 story building onto concrete
   - Crushed with forces up to 3 tons
   - Driven over with a car
   - Pressurized to a water depth of 2 km (1.5 miles)

The VIUD houses your typical USB 3.0 16-256 GB flash drive in an extremely high strength Aluminum or Titanium case and is filled with epoxy to ensure maximum protection to the flash memory. The cap attaches to the end of the base with a magnet so you don’t have to ever worry about losing your drive cap again.

VIUD’s KickStarter campaign is scheduled to open on October 15th and rewards are expected to start at $179 for an Aluminum model and $289 for the Titanium.
