CONCORD, Mass. - Oct. 14, 2014 - PRLog -- GrainPro, Inc., the worldwide leader in post-harvest solutions and the pioneer in Ultra Hermetic™ storage, launches its patented Cocoon Cargo™ online on 24 October 2014 through its website, blog and social media.

The GrainPro Cocoon Cargo is developed for the fumigation of commodities loaded in flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBC) or “Big Bags”. These ordinary big bags save on labor and space, but do not protect commodities against infestation, growth of molds and moisture ingress. The Cocoon Cargo provides a gastight environment that maximizes the effects of organic fumigants, such as carbon dioxide (CO₂), to better protect commodities inside Big Bags. It can also be used with non-organic fumigants such as phosphine.

To comply with local sanitary regulations, big bags are fumigated inside shipping containers. Shipping containers are not gastight, thus, allowing fumigants to leak out and shortening the exposure times. Also, in many developing countries, once the commodities arrive, restrictions on fumigation make the re-fumigation of a container very costly.

As a result, infestation and mold growth producing aflatoxin levels are still observed upon the commodities’ arrival at its destination. When this occurs, both exporter and importer suffer claims, trade disputes and additional expenses.

Made from sturdy and durable 1250 g/m² reinforced PVC, the Cocoon Cargo is designed for simple hermetic storage. It is equipped with an inlet port to allow the flushing of CO₂ or phosphine and an outlet port for the release of oxygen.

The Cocoon Cargo fits inside a 20’ shipping container and can be filed with 10 large or 20 regular big bags. To facilitate the easy loading of Big Bags with the use of a forklift, the zipper of a Cocoon Cargo is located near the ground.

“We are constantly developing a full-range of solutions to help international exporters, traders and farmers of all sizes gain an edge in preserving and protecting their products,” says GrainPro President Phil Villers. “By continuously improving our solutions and applying organic methods, we help secure an abundant supply of safely dried agricultural commodities for global consumption.”

Besides the Cocoon Cargo, GrainPro is also launching two other new solutions this month. The TranSafeLiner Gas Ultra Hermetic Fumigation™ (TSL G-HF™) is a patented liner for shipping containers with fumigation features. Meanwhile, the patented SuperGrainbag Farm™ (SGB Farm™) is a low cost Ultra Hermetic bag liner for farm commodities such as maize, cassava and rice paddy. Last September, GrainPro formally introduced the Solar Bubble Dryer™ (SBD™), which provides farmers with an efficient and state-of-the-art way to dry their harvested crops and protect them from sudden rains.

GrainPro has an International Organic Standards (IOS) certification from Certech and is recognized all over the world for its hermetic storage and drying innovations. GrainPro’s patented Cocoon™, TranSafeLiner™ and SuperGrainbag™ are currently used in more than 100 countries.
