Follow on Google News | Tuff Hedeman Brings Record Breaking $70,000 Purse to the “Bulls On the Border” Bull Bash5 World Champion Bull Riders and the Bucking Bull of the Year are On the Road to Mercedes
For the first time in the history of Championship Bull Riding 25 bull riders from 10 different states and two countries will travel to Mercedes in an attempt to collect an unprecedented $70,000 first place purse recently made available after no rider completed the 8 second ride in the Shoot Out Round of the last two events in the winner take all format of the Road to Cheyenne Tour events held in Huron, South Dakota and Conroe, Texas. In spite of a gallant effort none of bull riders heard the whistle in the Shoot Out round thus leaving the first place prize of $50,000 unclaimed. Last weekend in Conroe, Trey Benton, Rock Island, Texas won the average on two bulls defeating his former traveling partner, Cody Teel, Kountze, Texas, by 4.5 points, but neither could make the required 8 second whistle to pocket the $50,000 thus rolling over the prize monies to a $70, 000 plus payday for the next regular season CBR event. The former traveling partners and good friends will both be back in Mercedes trying to make the whistle and history once again. World Champion Bucking Bull, Penny Lover, owned by Benny Cude, will also make the trip to the border for the final four Shoot Out round. The bucking bull owned by Benny Cude of the Seven Rocking X Ranch in Priddy, Texas, remains unridden in CBR competition. The CBR will also be featuring the “other side of the ride” in the CBR Bull Team Challenge, a competition where the bulls are competing for $25,000 in prize money to be awarded to the team with the three highest scores at the end of the event. The Ed Payne- Real Don Johnson “Bulls on the Border” Bull Bash presented by Tecate and Riveras held at 8 PM at the Mercedes Livestock Show Arena located at 1000 North Texas Avenue. Saturday night’s lineup will follow the revolutionary three round CBR 8 Second Format featuring a tournament style of competition. The action gets underway at 8 p.m. with the top 24 bull riders in the world doing their best to stay on for eight seconds in round one so they can advance to the semifinals. The 12 top scores get to ride in the semifinals with the best four advancing to a Shoot Out round where the bulk of the $70,000 in prize money is paid. An autograph session will immediately follow the bull riding with four time World Champion Tuff Hedeman and the reigning CBR World Champion currently the number one ranked cowboy in the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA), Sage Steele Kimzey, 2012 PRCA World Champion Cody Teel, 2012 CBR World Champion Josh Barentine, 2013 World Champion Cole Echols, 2011 CBR World Champion Clayton Foltyn and 2014 CBR Finals Winner Neil Holmes of Houston, Texas.
