Bubba Groove releases debut EP 'Music for the Average Hillbilly'

Oct. 16, 2014 - PRLog -- The singer and songwriter known as Bubba Groove has released his debut EP record, “Music for the Average Hillbilly.” The EP is composed of six original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 25 minutes, making for a round introduction to this hitherto undiscovered entertainer from Springfield, Missouri. It has been proudly published on the Blackwater Productions independent record label entirely without support from the corporate music industry. Homegrown and heartfelt, earnest and free-spirited, “Music for the Average Hillbilly” by Bubba Groove is exactly what it purports to be, as well as a wonderful collection of songs for the average everyone.

Bubba Groove cites as main artistic influences such legends of the country-western sound as Junior Browne, Marty Robbins and Roy Clark, as well as rockers and rockabillies such as Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, and Roy Orbison.

Groove's EP cleaves mostly to the former style, building on solid songwriting with natural, American narratives and filling itself out with well-orchestrated strings, classic electric guitars, and a balanced dose of synthesizer chords. A healthy presence of rock 'n' roll is felt throughout, also, and the closing track, “When Angels Fall,” is a sonorous ballad which brings the record to a thoughtful, mellow conclusion.

Speaking of his start in music, Bubba Groove writes, “In the 1960s, every young boy wanted to start his own garage band a be a rock star. I was no exception. At fourteen, I picked up a flat-top guitar and started pounding on it!”

Groove explains that though he had instrumental chops enough to make music as a younger man, he had nothing to write about, being too green yet to have anything much to say.

“I had not lived enough life to write about it,” Groove relates. “The songs in my album, 'Music for the Average Hillbilly,' tell stories of life. Some are sad, others I hope bring laughter to the listener, but all are always told through the joy of music.”

Bubba Groove had graduated to playing live at bars around town by the age of 22, but rearing children and supporting his family put his music career on the back burner.

“I never took music seriously,” he writes. “I was too busy getting on with life, marriage and raising kids, and holding down a steady job.”

Little did he suspect that while he was preoccupied with real life, he was also socking away the stories and meditations which would later become “Music for the Average Hillbilly.”

“Providing for my family through recessions and economy ups and downs took all my time and energy. Family has, and always will, take first place in my life. But, at last I am in a place in life where I can return to my first love, making music. Please enjoy the music my efforts have created for you, the listener.”

Groove's bio on his official website (link provided below) gives this final benediction:

“And no matter what else you do in life, be good to God's children. Sincerely, God bless to all – Bubba Groove.”

“Music for the Average Hillbilly” by Bubba Groove is available online worldwide. Fans of the legitimate American sound should get in early.
