| ![]() Tempe's First Hash Bar Opening Doors! As Arizona does a judicial juggling act over it's medical marijuana policies one group of entrepreneurs is holding a Grand Opening event to enter into the chaotic world of bars competing for customers on Mill Avenue only they don't sell alcohol.
By: Purple Haze House With a Grand Opening scheduled for November 14th the 'Purple Haze House' enters the history books in Tempe as the first official "hash bar" . Located at the south end of party street Mill Avenue, ASU's newest bar is serving up "dabs" instead of drinks and the customers are elated. Purple Haze House is a "member-only" State law allows for the consumption and smoking of medical marijuana in anywhere not a "public place", however a "public place" is "anywhere not designated for the sole and exclusive use of its members or membership" according to the law. Purple Haze House is quite exclusive and clearly serves only its own members. These two factors work in favor of club patrons during stage events such as live music or stand-up comedy shows where event goers can get up close and personal with the performers in an extremely relaxed environment. Along with weekly stage events, the lounge is also host to a variety of marijuana advocate meetings that help educate patients in regards to their rights under the new law and how to properly assert them when dealing with law enforcement officers. "Purple Haze House is the only one of it's kind" says "Kaptin Kannabis" aka Sean Morley aka WWF and WWE pro wrestler "Val Venis" who is one of the owners of the new vape lounge. Mr Morley believes cannabis has uses far beyond the medical realm and his online activism for the plant shows. There are only a few businesses similar to this one in the entire country and the Kaptin and his partner are looking to expand as quickly as possible. Michael Carlson, another owner on file with Purple Haze House, says "we provide everything patients need for a great time. We offer them live entertainment, paraphernalia rentals so they don't have to travel with their own piece and most of all we offer the people of the cannabis community somewhere they can feel safe while enjoying themselves." Purple Haze House has three partners in all and the third partner is no stranger to the mmj industry. As a developer of a topical spray that infuses cannabis oil and ancient herb combinations designed to relieve pain and discomfort, Andrew Young is a budding hopeful in a soon to be vicious market of marijuana infused products for Arizona consumers. Alternative health medicines such as his are now part of a $2.3 Billion dollar a year industry and Arizona will be no exception. The partners hired Arizona's controversial marijuana consultant and outspoken advocate Bill Hayes to oversee the opening of their first location to guarantee a success the first time around. Hayes had already opened similar style business in Phoenix and his first hand expertise was crucial in getting the business going without a snag. The eclectic decorating style is actually a combination or tribute of sorts to other local bars that have come and gone from the Tempe area. The booths, tables and chairs all come from bars that closed for one reason or another, Hayes says "it's like a tribute and a lesson all in one, alcohol bars are closing and marijuana bars are opening, it's a new day for sure." Patients can pay either a daily, weekly or monthly membership fee to gain access to the club and it's events. The bar rents bongs and other paraphernalia to patrons for a few bucks, a snack bar in the back of the lounge offers everyone's favorite munchies and the staff is always quick with a smile and helping hand for people trying out new glass pieces for the first time. The boutique offers a unique "try before you buy" style of testing the products with actual meds before you purchase the glass and this seems to be very popular with the younger and middle aged patient groups which are traditionally more savvy consumers of paraphernalia. While the Purple Haze House is sure to get plenty of attention from local neighbors it is also bound to get some attention from local law enforcement as well. That's where Hayes comes in; his understanding of the Arizona Medical Marijuana is as deep as the bowls getting smoked at the lounge. Having filed multiple lawsuits against the State regarding the AMMA and being somewhat of a hub for defense cases from multiple counties Hayes makes sure the lounge maintains strict compliance to all laws and AZDHS rules. If you have a medical marijuana card from Arizona or from any other state for that matter you won't be sorry you paid the five dollars at the door for a daily member pass. Just bring some meds and a few bucks for the door and snacks and get lost in the utter craziness of cannabis consumption happening at Purple Haze House on November 14th for their Grand Opening. The event has international acts and local artists sharing the same small stage and limited seating venue inside with the party spilling over outside in the parking lot with vendors booths and food that is being catered in. DJ Soulman is headlining the event and getting up close and personal with a DJ straight from a show in Paris isn't something that happens often in Tempe. Purple Haze House promised fans they would be the "new pinnacle of the marijuana entertainment industry" and they are keeping true to their word. End
