Follow on Google News | Topeka Metro Improves Transit Experience with New Bus SheltersThe bus shelters were designed and fabricated with 100% USA materials by Brasco International, located in Madison Heights, MI. Topeka Metro chose Brasco’s Barrel Roof SlimLine shelters for the project, which are made from no-rust aluminum and finished in a zero VOC (volatile organic compound) powder coat. “Topeka Metro continues to improve the transit experience for the people of Topeka,” said Secretary King, “and these new shelters are the proof.” Funding for the new shelters was provided through a New Freedom grant distributed by the Kansas Department of Transportation. Topeka Metro applied for and received the grant as part of an effort to make fixed route bus stops more accessible to riders. “Our team has worked diligently to complete the shelter project,” said Susan Duffy, General Manager, Topeka Metro. “Our goal has been to have all of the shelters in place before the winter weather comes. We want to be able to provide a little more comfort to our riders.” Please join Topeka Metro and Kansas Transportation Secretary Mike King for the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Phase II bus shelters on the Yellowroutes.
