Follow on Google News | Waukesha Choral Union presents "Joy To The World"Two concerts - on Dec. 5 in Waukesha and Dec. 7 in Oconomowoc - will blend familiar Christmas carols with significant multi-cultural offerings of the season.
Concerts will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 300 Carroll St., Waukesha and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7 at St. Catherine’s Church, W359 N8512 Brown St., Oconomowoc. Tickets are available at the door on online at www.choralunion.org While traditional carols will be sung by the chorus with room for some sing-a-long, several represent the music of world cultures. They include “Gesu Bambino,” a 1917 piece from Italian born Pietro Yon; Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Contata No, 140;” excerpts from “Ceremony of Carols,” a 1942 piece by British composer Benjamin Britten and “Motets for the Season of Christmas” Rich History of Choral Music Waukesha Choral Union has been musically active in the community for over 60 years. Originally a combination of Carroll College students and community singers, it took its present form as an auditioned choir in 1978. Waukesha Choral Union derives its strength and quality from its members’ passion for singing and is always seeking new voices. Auditions are held by appointment. Recent collaborative partners include the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Oconomowoc Chamber Orchestra, Bel Canto Chorus, Milwaukee Choristers, Carroll University Choirs, and the choirs of Waukesha South High School, Muskego High School, and Hartford Union High School.
