Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta is excited to join Google and celebrate a new initiative for girls to learn code. Made with Code (https://www.madewithcode.com/) inspires girls to learn about computer science and write their own story through technology.

As a part of this project, Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta received a $50,000 grant allowing the organization to host coding parties, reaching thousands of girls, and building upon programming where girls explore science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). This program will also allow girls to communicate their ideas with a computer in creative ways.

“Made with Code is a great opportunity to expose girls to computer science and STEM career options. Through this program, we are fulfilling our mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character as they recognize their own full potential in the sciences,” said Amy Dosik, CEO, Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta.

The need for coders in the workforce continues to increase. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, by the time girls currently enrolled in middles school go to college, there will be one million more Computer Science jobs than computer scientists available. This segment of the workforce will be one of the fastest-growing and highest-paying sectors over the next decade, earning the highest entry-level salary of any bachelor’s degree.

Because women remain underrepresented in the science and engineering workforce, with less than 1% of girls majoring in Computer Science, Made with Code features stories of women and girl coders who are creating a diverse array of projects with code.
