Asian Pacific Women’s Center Announces Partnership With Ucla’s Apa Health Care Organization

LOS ANGELES - Nov. 5, 2014 - PRLog -- The Asian Pacific Women's Center (APWC) today announced their partnership with Asian Pacific American Health Collaboration Access Resource Education (APA Health CARE), a registered health organization at the University of California, Los Angeles.

APWC’s goal in working with APA Health CARE is to increase the accessibility of culturally and linguistically appropriate support services to survivors of domestic violence in Los Angeles County's Asian Pacific Islander community.

Through APWC’s participation in APA Health CARE's numerous health fairs, APWC will have increased opportunity to educate the Asian and Pacific Islander community about domestic violence and provide more services to survivors of domestic violence, especially, survivors who may be unaware of our culturally sensitive services. APA Health CARE's referral system will assist APWC in expanding our reach and services to women and children throughout Los Angeles County.

“APWC is excited to begin this partnership with APA Healthcare because of the hard work and dedication that was needed to develop this partnership, said Kao Tang Ying Moua, APWC’s Volunteer Coordinator.  “Through this partnership we plan to reach more than 1000 community members throughout the course of the academic calendar year.  Our goal is to educate our Asian Pacific Islander community on the effects of unhealthy relationships and intimate partner violence.  We would like our community to know we provide supportive services that are linguistically and culturally tailored to meet survivors' needs."

APA HealthCARE’s health fairs focus on the individuals who are at the highest risk: underinsured individuals and families whose income level does not place them below the poverty line. While these individuals have health coverage, there are usually limits in that coverage that often leads to unaffordable health costs. Underinsured individuals are at higher risk than uninsured individuals because there are no safety nets in place for them. APA Health CARE’s health fairs also serve individuals who are underserved due to various barriers such as not having access to a provider who speaks their primary language or not having U.S. citizenship.
