The Men's Mental Health Center Will Provide Free Mental Health Assistance To Men & Boys

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. - Dec. 20, 2015 - PRLog -- Numerous barriers prevent men and boys from admitting when they need help, from deciding to seek help when they need it, and from taking full advantage of services that are available to help them with various life challenges when they arise. Notwithstanding, from their early childhood, boys are socialized not to take their general health including mental health too seriously. Even so, there is a plethora of evidence, which suggests that many men in our society could benefit from paying closer attention to their overall health, which includes their mental health. This understanding forms the foundation on which The Men's Mental Health Center in Pembroke Pines was created.

The Men's Mental Health Center is a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit organization that was established by Psychotherapist Dr. Percy Ricketts. According to Dr. Ricketts; “the main goal of this organization is to offer a number of male-friendly counseling and other related services for men and boys of diverse backgrounds. The focus for its first year, will be to encourage men to contact the center to seek confidential help and advice on various mental health and other concerns, to encourage them to schedule mental mental health evaluations, especially for depression and anxiety, which now affect a quarter of all Americans, to encourage them to get regular free mental health check-ups and tune-ups from the licensed Mental Health Professionals at the center, and, where indicated, they will receive referrals to other appropriate professionals and organizations that can help them with their unique individual concerns.”

Dr. Ricketts stated that "in order to ensure its success during the first year of operation as a not-for-profit organization; The Men's Mental Health Center will be leaning very heavily on the generosity of the entire community for support. Donations are currently needed in both cash and kind. However, cash donations, are more urgently needed in the start-up phase. The majority of the funds received at the inception, will be used primarily to purchase mental health resources for clients, as well as to provide stipends for non-volunteer counseling staff who will be assisting at the center.
